Heading overseas? Zoom covers permanent resident visa holders, partner/defacto visas, student visas, TSS visas, 457 visas and more who are travelling overseas temporarily. To be eligible to travel with us, you need to be aged 74 years or under, hold a return ticket to Australia, and have a home in Australia in which you intend to return (you just need to live there, not own it).

You also have to hold a valid visa or permit which allows you unrestricted access into Australia, and either access to the public healthcare system (Medicare) or have your own private health insurance here that covers you and any travelling dependents for the duration of your policy and the rest of your stay in Australia.

  • What types of non-residents does Zoom cover?
  • Whether you're a permanent resident visa holder, on a partner visa, student visa, TSS visa or 457 sponsored visa we don't mind.  As long as you are temporarily travelling overseas and at the date your certificate of insurance is issued you are:

    -aged 74 years and under; and
    -hold a return ticket to Australia; and
    -have a home in Australia to which you intend to return; and
    -hold a valid visa or permit which provides access to all publicly funded health and disability services in Australia or you have private health insurance that adequately covers you and any dependants travelling with you for the entire duration of your policy and for the rest of your stay in Australia. 

    *Please note we do not cover those in Australia on holiday, who are on a tourist visa who are travelling temporarily overseas.

  • Does Zoom cover people in Australia on tourist visas?
  • No, Zoom only covers permanent resident visa holders, travelling overseas temporarily, who are:

    -aged 74 years and under; and
    -hold a return ticket to Australia; and
    -have a home in Australia to which you intend to return; and
    -hold a valid visa or permit which provides access to all publicly funded health and disability services in Australia or you have private health insurance that adequately covers you and any dependants travelling with you for the entire duration of your policy and for the rest of your stay in Australia. 

  • Does Zoom cover non-residents without Medicare?
  • Yes, assuming you meet all other necessary requirements, and you have private health insurance that adequately covers you and any dependants travelling with you for the entire duration of your policy and for the rest of your stay in Australia. 

  • Does Zoom cover inbound non-residents visiting Australia?
  • No, Zoom doesn’t cover non-residents from overseas who are visiting Australia. We only cover permanent resident visa holders who are temporarily living in Australia.

  • Does Zoom cover non-residents for travel around Australia?
  • No, Zoom only covers permanent resident visa holders for overseas travel, not for domestic travel around Australia.

  • Are there age limits to non-resident travel insurance?
  • Yes, we cannot cover any non-residents over the age of 74 years.

  • How do I prove I have insurance for my destination visa?
  • You may be required to prove you have adequate travel insurance before you can obtain a visa for your chosen destination. A copy of your Zoom Certificate of Insurance combined with the Table of Benefits shown in our policy document can be used for this.

  • Which pre-existing conditions does Zoom travel insurance cover?
  • We automatically cover 36 pre-existing medical conditions with no medical assessments or lengthy medical forms to complete. For further information and a full list of covered conditions head to our pre-existing medical conditions page.

  • Am I covered for adventure activities on my holiday?
  • We automatically cover a wide range of adventure sports including diving, bunjee jumping and horse riding and more. You can also buy our Adventure Pack to cover additional adventure sports. See a full list of adventure activities covered under our Zoom policies.

  • Am I covered for cruises automatically?
  • No, not automatically. You must purchase our Cruise Pack in order to be covered for any medical treatment you receive on board and for helicopter evacuation should you require emergency medical assistance.

  • I have high value items; how much can I insure them for?
  • If you have an expensive item that you just can’t leave behind, you can insure it separately for up to $5,000. Please note that High Value Item cover is only available under our Comprehensive and Frequent Traveller plans.

  • Can I reduce my excess with Zoom?
  • Yes you can reduce the standard excess of $200 by paying an excess reduction fee within the payment process.  You can reduce the excess from $200 to $100.

You should read your policy document (PDS) carefully to ensure you select the cover that is best for you.

You can add optional cover for extras such as Rental Vehicle Excess if you are hiring a car, Sports Activities Pack if you’re feeling adventurous and Snow Cover if you are hitting the slopes.  These can be added during the quote process.
