PRE-EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITIONS

At Zoom, we want you to enjoy every moment of your journey, which is why we cover a wide range of travel situations. If you unexpectedly become ill or sustain an injury during your travels overseas, we will cover your overseas medical costs.  However, when it comes to pre-existing medical conditions it is important to note that you may not be automatically covered.

The pre existing medical conditions listed in the table below are automatically covered under this policy without assessment or additional charge.

Diabetes mellitus (Type I)

Providing you were diagnosed over 12 months ago; and have no eye, kidney, nerve or vascular complications, and do not also suffer from known cardiovascular disease, hypertension or hypercholesterolaemia, and you are under 50 years of age at the date of policy issue 

Diabetes mellitus (Type II)

Providing you were diagnosed over 12 months ago; and have no eye, kidney, nerve or vascular complications, and do not also suffer from known cardiovascular disease, hypertension or hypercholesterolaemia, and you are under 50 years of age at the date of policy issue

Epilepsy

Providing you have not had any seizures in the past 12 months, and you are on no more than one anticonvulsant medication 

Folate deficiency

Gastric reflux (heartburn, indigestion)

Goitre

Glaucoma

Hiatus hernia

Hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol)

Providing you do not suffer from a known cardiovascular disease

Hyperlipidaemia (high blood lipids)

Providing you do not suffer from a known cardiovascular disease 

Hypertension (blood pressure)

Providing you do not suffer from a known cardiovascular disease and your most recent reading is less than 165/95 

Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)

Including Hashimoto’s disease

Impaired glucose intolerance (glucose intolerance, pre-diabetes)

Incontinence

Insulin resistance

Menopause

Nocturnal cramps

Osteopaenia

Pernicious anaemia

Sleep apnoea

Trigeminal neuralgia

Trigger finger

Vitamin B12 deficiency

Vitamin D deficiency


The pre existing medical conditions listed in the table above are automatically covered under this policy without assessment or additional charge, provided: the condition has been stable for more than 12 months; and there is no planned surgery, treatment or specialist review; and you have not attended hospital for treatment for the condition in the past 12 months; and cover does not extend to cover any routine treatment or management of your approved pre existing medical condition(s); for example, blood test and prescription renewals.

  • What is a pre-existing medical condition?
  • A pre existing medical condition is:  a) Any medical or physical condition, defect, disease or illness including any mental illness, of which you were aware or should reasonably have been aware, and for which treatment, medication, preventative medication, advice, preventative advice or investigation have been received or prescribed by a medical or dental adviser in the 90 days prior to the relevant time; or  b) Any chronic or ongoing (whether chronic or otherwise) medical or dental condition, illness or disease of which you were aware or should reasonably have been aware, and which is medically documented or under investigation prior to the relevant time; or  c) Any surgery which you have undergone in the past 12 months; or  d) Pregnancy that is not automatically covered as detailed within the PDS  e) Any of the above conditions which are subject of an investigation, even if the condition has not been diagnosed. 

  • My condition isn't on the list above, how do I get cover?
  • Zoom only covers the conditions listed in the table above. We are unable to cover you for any additional medical conditions that are not detailed within our Policy Documentation. You can still purchase a policy with Zoom that will insure you for medical emergencies unrelated to  your pre-existing condition, as well as cover for cancellation, luggage, severe weather conditions, family emergency, theft of cash, and much more!

  • Does Zoom travel insurance cover pregnancy?
  • Yes, if you conceived naturally, without fertility treatment and with no complications then you are automatically covered up to and inclusive of the 24th week of your pregnancy for single foetus, and for multiple pregnancies up to and inclusive of the 19th week of gestation.

  • Can I pay extra to insure additional pre-existing medical conditions?
  • No, to keep our costs zippy we only cover a select few conditions as detailed above.

  • What conditions are excluded?
  • We do not cover any other condition other than those listed in the table above or within our Policy Documentation.
