MEDICAL TRAVEL INSURANCE

Travel insurance is a no brainer and medical cover is the single biggest reason to buy it.  If you become ill or have an accident and hurt yourself overseas, the medical costs can be painfully expensive.  Without travel insurance, you are personally liable to cover the mounting medical bills which can add up to tens of thousands of dollars in a matter of days, and in some cases the total is insurmountable.

All Zoom travel insurance plans provide 24/7 emergency medical assistance and unlimited cover for overseas medical expenses. This ensures that you get the best possible treatment that you need.  Cover includes emergency evacuation, hospitalisation, access to medical experts that can speak with doctors in foreign languages, costs for required doctor visits, medication and keeping family members updated.

Zoom believes that all Australians should be able to afford quality travel insurance and that no one should leave the country without medical cover.  Our Medical Only plan provides unlimited medical cover and personal liability to ensure that you're covered for the bare essentials, even when on a budget.

If you're looking for more than medical cover, compare Zoom's travel insurance plans to find one that suits your needs.

DECLARE YOUR PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS

At Zoom, we want you to enjoy every moment of your journey, which is why we cover a wide range of travel situations. If you unexpectedly become ill or sustain an injury during your travels overseas, we will cover your overseas medical costs.  However, when it comes to pre-existing medical conditions it is important that you tell us about your medical history.

When getting a quote, you must declare all your pre-existing medical conditions.  Zoom Travel Insurance does not provide cover for any pre-existing medical conditions unless you declare such conditions, complete the medical screening process, pay any relevant additional premium and receive written confirmation from us confirming that cover has been accepted for these conditions.

Our easy medical screening lets you declare your conditions in a jiffy. This means you get to travel with peace of mind knowing your conditions are covered.  So what are you waiting for? Get a quote and zoom to it!

PRE-EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITION FAQ's

Policy wording isn't always easy, our handy FAQ's keep things breezy!
  • What is considered a pre-existing medical condition?
  • A Pre‐Existing Medical Condition is a defined term under this policy and means any one of the following:

    1. any medical, dental, physical or mental condition, defect, disease or illness of which in the past 12 months, you (being all persons to be insured under the policy) were aware or should reasonably have been aware of (due to symptoms a reasonable person in the circumstances would be expected to be aware of) and for which you have:

    - been diagnosed or had symptoms (even if a condition has not yet been diagnosed); or
    - been prescribed medication;
    - received (or are waiting for) medical treatment, including any kind of surgery;
    - received (or are waiting for) tests, investigations or specialist consultation
    - received or been advised to attend a follow-up consultation; and/or
    - attended a hospital or clinic (as an outpatient or inpatient).

    And/or:

    2. any of the below medical conditions which you (being all persons to be insured under the policy) had at any time in your life.
    - Heart conditions, including any cardiovascular or coronary heart disease or any condition related to your blood or heart vessels;
    - Any condition that involves your brain, your lung & respiratory system or circulatory systems;
    - Kidney conditions and kidney disease;
    - Conditions involving the neck or back;
    - Any type of cancer;
    - Reduced or deficient immune system; and/or
    - Any chronic or ongoing medical condition or terminal illness

    PLEASE NOTE:

    - You should carefully consider your medical and dental history and that of all other persons to be insured under the policy.

    - Pregnancy is not a medical condition so you do not need to tell us about this unless you are currently pregnant and have had any complications of pregnancy; or you are currently planning a pregnancy via assisted reproductive treatment, for example, IVF. Please refer to the pregnancy section of the policy wording for more information on our pregnancy cover.

  • How do I tell Zoom about my medical history?
  • We have a quick and easy online medical screening which you need to complete if you have any pre-existing illnesses. Follow the medical questions within the quote process to complete the assessment for all travellers with pre-existing conditions. It'll only take a minute.

  • Do I need a doctor's certificate to get assessed?
  • No, we do not require any medical certificates in order for you to complete our medical assessment. Although it may be advisable to speak to your doctor before you start the screening to ensure you are familiar with your recent treatment, medications etc.

  • How long does it take to complete the medical assessment?
  • It really depends on how many conditions you have to declare. But generally speaking it shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes per condition.

  • What conditions are excluded?
  • We do not cover anyone who;
    a. has been given a terminal diagnosis,
    b.  is travelling against medical advice,
    c. is travelling with the intention to (or in any case do) obtain elective medical treatment (including any cosmetic or dental procedures),
    d. is ongoing routine treatment or medication for any pre-existing condition which existed at the time of date of issue of the certificate of insurance,
    e. for any claims involving drug or alcohol dependency.

    Please note: with points c. and d. you can still purchase a policy with Zoom, however cover is not available for any claims arising from these conditions.

  • Do you cover any conditions automatically?
  • No, Zoom travel insurance does not provide cover for any pre-existing medical conditions unless you declare them, complete the medical screening process, pay any relevant additional premium and receive written confirmation from us confirming that cover has been accepted.  Failure to disclose a pre-existing medical condition may invalidate your policy cover under some sections.

  • I can't find my condition in your screening, what should I do?
  • See if an alternate name for your condition appears. Instead, try typing in a body part to see what suggestions appear. Speak to your doctor- they may be able to offer advice on different namings. From time-to-time there may be some conditions that are not listed in our medical screening.  In this circumstance, please give our friendly call centre staff a call to see if they can assist.

  • I forgot to add a condition, can I add it later?
  • We only allow you to add conditions to your policy if you are within our 14-day cooling-off period.

  • I have developed a new condition after I've purchased -  am I covered?
  • We only consider something pre-existing when you were aware of the conditions (e.g. you had signs, symptoms, investigations or a diagnosis) when you purchased your policy. Please see our definition of a pre-existing condition above to be clear on what this is. If you were not aware of the condition at the time of purchase, you may have provision to claim for unforeseen issues that arise from that condition.

  • I want to extend my trip, will my conditions be covered?
  • Yes, if you decide to stay overseas for longer, we can continue to cover your conditions, subject to re-assessment of your pre-existing illness.

  • I have a frequent traveller policy and have a new condition. Should I tell Zoom?
  • If, when you purchased your policy you were not aware of your condition (you had no signs, symptoms or investigations), your frequent traveller policy would automatically provide cover for unforeseen complications or issues that may arise from your newly diagnosed condition provided that your doctor has deemed you fit to travel.

  • What happens if I am declined cover?
  • Sometimes we are unable to cover conditions based on how you have answered questions within the medical assessment. If your condition isn’t approved, you may still have the option to purchase travel insurance, but you wouldn’t be covered for any claims relating to that pre-existing condition.

  • Does Zoom travel insurance cover pregnancy?
  • Yes, you do not need to tell us you're pregnant unless you have experienced complications of pregnancy; or you are currently planning a pregnancy via assisted reproductive treatment, for example, IVF. We automatically cover mums-to-be up to 24 weeks in gestation for single pregnancies and 19 weeks for multiple.  Please refer to the pregnancy section of the policy wording for more information on our pregnancy cover.

  • Does Zoom travel insurance cover mental illness?

  • Does Zoom travel insurance cover cancer?
